How do we know what is and what is not plagiarism? How do we assess its seriousness? We will try to answer these questions while discussing several general scenarios.

We will explore the reasons that lead students to plagiarize and ways to avoid intentional and unintentional plagiarism. The workshop will present research results from 39 European countries on students' and teachers' perceptions of plagiarism. Finally, we will discuss the technical capabilities of plagiarism detection support systems and how to understand their outputs properly.
